My name is Jeff Black, and I'm the author of these daily Bible devotions. I take the title from Isaiah 50:4.

The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens -- wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught. -- Isaiah 50:4 ESV

This website ministry is my sharing of His Word. As a pastor, I read a section each morning and try to get it. My hearing, as you'd expect, is sharper on some days than on others. I work my way through a book of the Bible at a leisurely pace, about a paragraph a day, because I'm a little slow and I like to taste His language.

I remember well how difficult it was to get established in the habit of reading His Word daily, mostly because it was so hard at first to understand. So in this ministry I make the assumption that you who read it are bright and want to understand but that you could use some bridging comments. I try to make my commentary each day resemble that of a good sportscaster -- someone who doesn't say too much or call a lot of attention to himself, someone who helps us see what's happening (for there is always a great deal happening inside the Word of God,) someone who loves what he is viewing and shares that love. I want us all to fall in love with His voice.

I love to have my ear wakened.  Especially when I am weary, I am sustained by His Word, and I can listen and be taught.  I hope you enjoy these daily readings too, and that you'll help me reach people you love with the Word of God.
